Marine Radio

Post by [email protected] »

Couldn't find a forum for marine radio sorry.

I applied online for my VHF marine radio licence today and ofcom sent me my licenece number straight away.

Iv been looking around for different marine radio's as my children enjoy going to the local Marina. (especially on days like these past few!!) I came across the 'Atlantis Vhf Hand Held Marine Radio' in maplins for £100, Looks quite smart, durable, Tripple watch ch.

More to the point,

Is there a Marine Radio That can listen to both the Main Freq and the duplex at the same time??
Hull Marina Use Ch80 but i dont want to listen to just one half of the conversation.

I thought about buying a dual watch radio and programming the frequencies and duplex's in myself but it would be much easier if i could buy one.

I like the idea of them being weather proof but i suppose its not a necessity.

Any Idea's??

Are you just wanting analog vhf coverage?? as most marine band radios now use Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (digital sel' call), I used to have a motorola gp300 on my old boat with ch's 06/12/16/73/80 and scan enabled, you could set one of these up with channel 80 on two channels ( ch1 ship to shore , ch2 shore to ship) and the scan would catch both sides of the 'duplex' conversation or one of those cheap chinese ebay pmr sets would to the same job..

was going to say the same thing as 5th element.

vx-7r, its waterproof, it has dual rx, and if needed comes with all the marine channels pre programmed (simplex only)

and with a very simple mod, out of band tx is obtainable
