VOICE SCRAMBLER INTEROPERABILITY THREAD !!

Post by bigbloke »

Hi All,

I'd like to use this thread as an information gathering point.

There are quite a few radios out there now with speech inversion scrambling,

legit radios such as:

the cobra 900
one of the TTI's (?)
one of the Motos (?)
intek 5050
and the kenwood TK??? (I forget the model) PMR handie

imported radios such as the:

PX777+
KG669+
KG689+
PX888+
VEV1000+
LT3260

Whilst I fully realise that programs like INVERT.EXE can be used to unscramble these in realtime using a PC and soundcard,
it would be good to know when comparing radios or meeting up with other users , what scope there is to talk scrambled between
these different brands / models. Obviously all scrambled radios of a specific make and model should talk to one another.

Ideally I'd like to produce 2 tables:

1) giving purely the inversion frequencies of each radio , on each scrambler setting

2) showing that scrambler option "1" on radio X works "exactly" or "close enough" with option "2" on radio Y and option "7" on radio "z"

If you have a fleet of different scrambled radios or mates with suitable models I'd be grateful if you could test them and feedback below.

If you cant work out the inversion frequencies plug one set into your soundcard mic socket in the clear, transmit on the other set in scrambled and record it to a WAV file using sound recorder or similar. Send me the WAV file (PM for details) and I can do the analysis and add the results.

Maybe it'll convince these radio makers to consider interoperability in the future !! or give us software definable inversion points (please !!!)

regards

BB

To make things clearer, here's a potential layout, which I'll follow up with a completed post

RADIO1: - First of the 2 scrambeld radios
RADIO2: - Second of the 2 scrambled radios

RADIO1 OPTION: N
(N = Number of scrambler options on the radio )

RADIO2 OPTION: N
(N = Number of scrambler options on the radio )

INTEROPERABILITY :

X/Y : CLEAR / JUST / UNUSABLE

Where X is the setting on radio 1, Y is the setting on radio 2

NOTES:
anything you might want to add e.g. ok for deep voices , unreadable on high

Regards

BB

RADIO1: - LINTON 3260
RADIO2: - WOUXUN KG689+

RADIO1 OPTION: 1
RADIO2 OPTION: 4

INTEROPERABILITY :

1/1 : UNUSABLE
1/2 : UNUSABLE
1/3 : UNUSABLE
1/4 : UNUSABLE

NOTES:

no matter what setting is used there is no way these radios will talk together with scrambler on

RADIO1: - LINTON 3260
RADIO2: - COBRA 900

RADIO1 OPTION: 1
RADIO2 OPTION: 1

INTEROPERABILITY :

1/1 : JUST

NOTES:

The Cobra audio is understandable on the linton but sounds very thin
The lintoon audio sounds quite bassy on the cobra but can be understood

Lol the whole purpose of inversion is to stop any casual listener just buying a radio and listening in,i am all for sets not working with each other,if u want to mess with inversion/encryption go out and buy some masc sets! i have now started to use some motorola i355s nextel phones with ptt, although it cant be used as a phone over here the ptt audio and range outperforms most off the shelf 446 radios and the sound is great.

In a more expensive , rolling code scrambled radio, yes I concur - but absolute security of voice is not a factor in a budget set.
just a degree of numpty proofing ;-)

There are some people running MASC radios on 446 in the Bristol area BTW - I hear them occasionally on channel 7

In that case this thread is still of relevance to you as it will help you find the least compatible radio, with the highest chance of not
being intercepted !! ;-)

for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction ;-)
