maxon sl25

Post by tippohat »

Just got these two radios, they are "Maxon sl25-u2-6", it also says "EASIWAVE" on the inside. They have 6 channels.

Got these today from my dad, he said he didnt know where he got them from but they dont have a charger. Does anyone know anything about these radios? Any information would be appreciated. I know absolutly nothing about them. If they are decent enough I will probably invest in a charger.

Cheers.

Did I post this in the correct area?

I might just buy a charger for them because they are bound to be better than the tecnika pmr radios I bought before, they sucked really badly.

Are they illegal to use then? I remember reading somewhere that pmr needs to have a non detatchable antenna?

They only have 6 channels, would they be the first 6 pmr channels?

They're "PMR" and not "PMR446"

PMR covers all the 'commercial' (read privately licensed) frequencies.

PMR446 is specifically the eight (or 16 digital) licence free "PMR446" frequencies.

The Maxon SL25's are probably programmed up on commercial frequencies and therefore (at least legally) you can only use them if you have a UKGL or private 'commercial' PMR licence.

Even if you got them re-programmed for the eight "PMR446" frequencies, they would still be illegal to use as they are not 'type certified' for PMR446 (they output too much power).

Does anyone care, would anyone notice?

Probably not. ;)

... but don't walk up to an Ofcom official and rub their nose in it.

If it says Easiwave, my bet is they're on the old SRBR channels.

yer they be old srbr freqs.

just opened up my software for the sl range of maxon radios and for these it will not get close enough to put these onto pmr446, i can have a 12.5, 20 or 25 step i can get close on some channels.

if you ever want the freqs changed drop me a message bud.

used to do the same for the icom f4sr, changing all those from the srbr freqs, but since they are not that used any more i never get asked to do it lol

the old version was writen to not allow onto the 446 i remember now.

sorry i have been on the road all day, but it is do able, and i am happy to do it if you have these radios kicking about.

I had some Maxon's the easiway freq's ARE illegal now they were withdrawn some time ago and replaced with 449Mhz and 446
easiwave lived around 461 Mhz and were quite low power
I used to strugle to get a few hundered yards out of them,
449 on full power is much better
10.10
