Trunking on simple light?
I was driving through town today and picked up what sounded like trunking on UHF ch2 and 3. Is this allowed? It certainly sounds evil...

More than likely a digital radio rather than a trunk net

What they need is an 'any' option for CTCSS/DCS, so the squelch will open for any tone, but not for no tone. This would be really useful assuming digital doesn't produce false positives.RogerD wrote:If only scanners had a Lockout button that worked for 5 minutes....... sigh.

There are lots of things they could do in the analogue realm but never have bothered.
And now in these digital days they could run the audio through DSP and check the noise levels, and whether the waveform looks like speech or not, filter out all the squelch crunches, etc.. even if it meant a half second delay who would mind?

uniden ubc800xlt has a lock out button that if you press it quickly it opens the channel again when the power is cycledRogerD wrote:If only scanners had a Lockout button that worked for 5 minutes....... sigh.
