IS there a calling channel on PMR446 ???
Having just bought a pmr 446 radio in with a load of other radio gear at a car boot sale , Is there a calling channel if so what is it ? and how many channels are there ???

No there isn't because the ethos of the system is that you go into Wal-Mart and buy them in multiples of two, you give one to someone else and you try and talk on whatever of the 8 allocated channels and CTCSS that you fancy to that other person who is known to you.
There is a however a community that like to play with 446, they will generally use channel 8 with no CTCSS or channel 8 CTCSS 8 to try and make a contact with a like minded person. See delboys website for 446 shenanigans.

I'd have thought that the people interested in group use of pmr446 would have discovered zello and moved away from the kids and shops.
