If there isnt enough space for you on the 8 analogue PMR channels go play on the 60- odd LPD ones ;-))

I'd never heard of this - totally new to me, so is this really what I'm reading 433-434MHz can be used by anybody with 10mW and a fixed antenna? Are people actually doing this? Can a ham talk to a non-ham, and can the two legally have a chat? Considering how empty 70 is, why on earth put it into a section where there are repeaters. As the rule is 10mW/Fixed ant - is anyone actually making these radios?

More info please

EDIT - found it viewtopic.php?t=23755

Seems to not be a major problem - but just very odd! 6 years and no makeup?

Have a search on ofcom website for licence free radio frequencies for LPD 433 radios I think you will find spot channels on 70cms have been released 433.075 to 434.775 but be aware there are a lot of 70cms repeater inputs and outputs on there so be very careful

If you have a legitimate LPD radio, you have every right to use it on any channel it correctly functions on, as hams have secondary status on the band. I'm not saying this is a good thing :eh:

Has anyone ever seen a real radio product for this allocation?

I also suspect that the low power devices wouldn't cause much grief to repeaters unless very close. If the users used a more powerful radio on the channel, the hams would react appropriately and at the very least make sure the illegal user was not going to get value from their radio. Sharing a band is fine with the legit power levels, and clearly nobody is complaining in the time it's been available. Anyone who wants to put a Baofeng on a channel to use would be stupid to do it where people will hear, they'd go somewhere much more private.

Reading this document, I interpret "CONSIDERING" point e) as there was a proposal not to allow encryption
on pmr/dmr 446, but as it is not reflected in the "DECIDES" section this was overruled ? Do others agree with
this interpretation ?

A local bingo hall has a wireless mic on LPD433 - weak and over deviated here
but puts a whole new twist on a "Numbers station" :-)

To get back on topic; :)

It is my understanding that it is 16 analoge channels on pmr446 now; the old 8 channels on 446.0-446.1 MHz, and 8 new ones from 446.1-446-2 MHz, all with 12.5 kHz channel spacing. New radios put on market after jan 1, 2017 should use sub-tones (CTCSS or DCS). (I think it means that sub-tones are required on new radios?!)

These 8 new analoge channels will co-exists with the 8/16 digital channels already on 446.1-446.2 MHz, and additional 8/16 digital channels on 446.0-446.1 MHz from jan 1, 2018.

Midland have made PMR446/LPD models for years. Here is a recent example from Nevada:

The MOD is the primary user there, so LPD/Ham have the same (secondary) priority. Ironically, there WAS a document from Ofcom which suggested ham users have a quick chat with the LPD user to work out how to get on nicely. I think Ofcoms line of thought is that if ham/LPD can unofficially inter-coordinate, it might prevent problems later. Having LPD and repeaters on the same channels is still a silly idea.

Incidentally, there are 4 new UHF simple light freqs in the pipeline, not sure when they're being given the go-ahead but it will happen at some point after the London 2010 Olympics.
