As you can see in this video, it transmits on both timeslots therefore it's not a proper tier 2 radio. It isn't even a proper DMR radio to be honest because even tier 1 radios are supposed to transmit in only one slot and not both. It never should have been sold as a DMR radio.

You can't really trust radio sellers of Chinese equipment to be honest about what they sell. They never have been. (Apart from people like Hytera).
Even radioddity which is a US retailer wrote this blog post (link below) claiming that the radio works on repeaters without mentioning that it blocks up the other timeslot so should never actually be used on DMR repeaters.

FALSE. While the BaoFeng DM-5R comes out of the box only supporting Tier 1, it can be easily upgraded to support Tier 2 online. The upgrade will be available at Radioddity.com as well as BaoFeng’s official website (under construction). This upgrade costs less than $10.

Thanks to lying manufacturers and retailers trying to make a quick buck, people are being tricked into buying this radio that does not do what it is supposed to. Stay away from this radio and the sellers who deliberately mislead consumers.

My suspicions were true then. I knew it occupied both slots prior to the upgrade.

Its difficult because whilst it would appear to work fine to you if you were using it, it's ruining the repeater access for other locals in your area :(

Did you bother to check the reviews first?
I just looked it up and the first review I saw said that that radio can only do one timeslot. Just like the DM-5R... {bnghd}

Thanks for the Reddit link troffasky, I read it from top to toe and have decided to give these dual-banders a swerve and get myself a VHF 380/RT3 for now until they sort their shít radios out.

The 380 and it's clones are currently the cheapest way to get onto DMR with everything working as it should do. Anything cheaper seems to be bad news
