As you may be aware Ofcom/CEPT are currently looking at expanding the PMR446 radio allocation.

The proposals will allow 16 analogue and up to 32 digital channels in the frequency range 446.000 - 446.200Mhz

I have posted the new proposed bandplans on my BLOG:

Cool, so paedos can hang around analogue channel1 and we can use DMR with full 256bit encryption so long as we only use 500mw.

I don't know why OFCUM are wasting the time, effort money even thinking about it. It's not as if the current allocation is wall-to-wall with traffic right across the UK.

Across the UK, certainly not. But in some areas it is, actually. If you go into central London there are lots of users at certain times. There are definitely not any free channels in that situation.

It's the same in Edinburgh during the event seasons. Completely jam packed in certain areas and additional capacity would be beneficial.

Delboy, the link on your site is to an early draft of a document that was finalised and approved by CEPT in the middle of last year. Did something change? Was there an announcment from Ofcom about implementing it or something? I couldn't see any other links.

I'd be reluctant to brand ch1 as the kiddies channel. I've used a number of these on ch1 at work simply because with half a dozen different types, nobody knows how to actually set them up properly. I must admit though, I upgraded my own analogue 446's to 16 channels a while ago!

Oh good, more decimal places. Just what the world needs.
Sooner or later the lunatics in charge of the asylum are going to have to stop dividing things by 2...
Or 3 in the case of 8.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333… kHz channels

Well it sort of looks the same to me but with another 8 channels @12.5kc added on the end.

I think it will be an annoying mistake to mix digital and analogue. So many radios out there with no CTCSS will get awful interference.

I work in Central London. There's often plenty to listen (and often nothing) but never, ever, is it anywhere near having every channel in use.

good news for those who *want* to be legal, or who care about it, but the majority of users won't even be aware of, nor care less about these changes.

There was an interesting post about the band usage of 446 in the 446 section a few weeks ago. I know this is very subjective, but I bleieve this to be the picture most 446 users here in the UK see. Exceptions are given for City Centres dure to the density of users, but that's the point of CTCSS and such right?
