Re: PMR446 (UHF CB Radio) Changes
Doesn't really matter does it? Either will be fine. In practice they both have a centre frequency and the same bandwidth to fit in with the channel plan. Might be a bit messy of people start to use mainstream dPMR or DMR on the weird spacings - but thats 446 for you.

Re: PMR446 (UHF CB Radio) Changes
The current allocation is 8 DMR (12.5kHz) and 16 dPMR (6.25kHz) channels sharing the same spectrum in the 446.1 to 446.2 MHz band, with 8 FM (12.5kHz) channels in the 446.0 to 446.1 MHz band. The new proposal is to just mix them all together, so you can use any of them in the whole 446.0 to 446.2 MHz band. There will be 16 FM, 16 DMR and 32 dPMR channels, all sharing the same spectrum.handyguy2002 wrote:Hi guy's. Ive heard about this a while ago but still does not mention weather the digital will be dmr or dpmr which are two different formats.

Mixing digital in with FM users sounds horrendous..... might as well just throw all your FM stuff in the bin if this goes ahead

Will anyone actually take any notice of Ofcom?

Ive yet to hear any digital racket on 446 and i have all the channels in the Motorola plus a few extras...
Lets be honest here... The genie is out of the bottle and nobody pays much attention to any waffle from Ofcom or the EU

Do people know what DMR simplex sounds like? It's nothing like a DMR repeater which does kick out a racket.

Dmr or dpmr wont interfear with fm if they use the cct or dcc codes. I use dmr 446 to keep in contact with my family and if you dont have any cct or dcc codes on a analogue frequency it can be a headache listening to what sounds like a machine gun. .

Why is there a difference? Surely a DMR signal ought to sound the same regardless of where it is transmitted from.Admiral wrote:Do people know what DMR simplex sounds like? It's nothing like a DMR repeater which does kick out a racket.

I suppose witha repeater it is constant noise, rather than with breaks as you'd get in a simplex QSOdaz3210 wrote:Why is there a difference? Does a DMR repeater transmit full time regardless of traffic? I can imagine it needs to poll every so often, but surely when not actually carrying traffic it closes down somewhat?

Re: PMR446 (UHF CB Radio) Changes
If you are unfortunate enough to be one of the folks that gets broadband internet "break through" on your analogue, "arghh spit", old school amateur radio , why does Mary's connection to the knitting forum sound, "to your ears", slightly different to Frank's streaming a porn film video content? (If you analyse it in depth with your lug holes).
The difference in perceived "sound" may be down to the amount of data needing to be transferred, in a given time slot, for whatever application is running digitally might it not?
Just guessing.

Re: PMR446 (UHF CB Radio) Changes
The repeater output always transmits in both timeslots when it is transmitting. The radios on the input transmit only on one timeslot. That's why they sound different. They would both cause interference, but sharing the channel with a simplex DMR user would be better than sharing it with a repeater output.

I just use the standard 8 channels as thats where the activity is but I'm a goody two shoes so I always use legal walkie talkies
If lets say for example somebody choses to use 4 watts on a regular hand held PMR who is going to know? I understand that if people are going to start using other channels and start chucking out 25 watts - 50 watts plus through a yagi beam then there going to get noticed lol not that I'm suggesting anybody is doing this but I'm just using that as an example. 4 watts from a hand held is nothing for Ofcom to be concerned about.

most likely will be dpmr i hear stuff above to the normal 8 channels all the time and i would welcome more channels to get away from some of the prats
