49mhz Walkie Talkie Frequncy
Hi guys, I just got some 49mhz Walkie talkies off eBay for a tenner. Does anyone know what frequencies they'll work on? I'm assuming they're multi channel as they have a few buttons on.
Cheers

Would suggest a local frequency counter and play with the buttons!DistantSignal wrote:Hi guys, I just got some 49mhz Walkie talkies off eBay for a tenner. Does anyone know what frequencies they'll work on? I'm assuming they're multi channel as they have a few buttons on.

A common one many years ago for the single channel variety, was 49.860, but they varied quite a bit from manufacturer set to set!
Some early ones were AM, a lot of the later ones FM!
Do you have a scanner or reciever at hand that covers 49 Mhz?
Would help ascertain what mode they are on also!

Re: 49mhz Walkie Talkie Frequncy
Well, as a rough guess I'd say they were FM with 5 channels between 49.830 and 49.890.
CH1=49.830
CH2=49.845
CH3=49.860
CH4=49.875
CH5=49.890

Re: 49mhz Walkie Talkie Frequncy
Hi there
I have been using 49 MHz for a while now.
Don't expect to much in the way of DX out of these radios, my sets are around 10 MW output.
Range tests have resulted in a distance of around 30 to 50 M.
Using the sets with a ¼ wave antenna has increased my range, I have walked up my road and not lost the signal.
I know this test isn't very scientific, its just my test.
http://uk1ab.no-ip.biz/49mhz.html
The radios I used for the range test were, MAXON PC-50 as the base with added antenna and the mobile was a Realistic TRC-503.
These are 5 channel FM sets
I have the MAXON connected to FRN free radio network as a gateway, works well around the house.

Nice to see someone else experimenting with 49mhz!
I did have a beacon set up with one of those Maxon vox operated sets and a MP3 player just to test various antenna configurations and ranges

Re: 49mhz Walkie Talkie Frequncy
Hello
after my last posting on 25 Oct 2015 I set up a beacon on my 49 MHz FRN gateway, this goes out every 15 minutes 24/7.
If anyone should hear it please send me an e-mail to the address that is announced on the beacon.
The frequency of this beacon is ( 49.860 MHz FM )
Please have a listen out on this frequency with your ICOM or YAESU radios and send me an e-mail.
The e-mail is announced on the beacon.
ps I chose this channel because it is free from baby monitors around here, you might not be so lucky.
Good luck
73 de Wes.

Sounds like they double up as a nice hand warmer in the winter months! How big is the battery for it?UK018 wrote: my sets are around 10 MW output.

Well they'll need a lot of power to get out, according to half the posts on this thread they're down at 49 millihertz. Winds me up no end as I actually use millihertz at work (frequency drift) so the old noggin doesn't auto-correct to Megahertz without stopping and thinking about it first.FakeJake wrote:Sounds like they double up as a nice hand warmer in the winter months! If my calculations are correct, that's a wavelength of over 6 million km!

Indeed. No wonder they need 10 Megwatts into those tiny little antennas.FakeJake wrote:If my calculations are correct, that's a wavelength of over 6 million km!

That's odd, I didn't see a single reference to mHz, just all upper or lower case MHZ and mhz.BK wrote:
