PMR446 frequenices and general information/equitque

Post by Excalibur »

Many people don't know or are confused about the OFFICAL PMR446 frequenices for use in the united kingdom.

There are 8 channels avalible for use without any licence needed. Use analoge FM and bandwidth is narrow at 6.25 KHZ

CH 1 = 446.00625 Mhz
CH 2 = 446.01875 Mhz
CH 3 = 446.03125 Mhz
CH 4 = 446.04375 Mhz
CH 5 = 446.05625 Mhz
CH 6 = 446.06875 Mhz
CH 7 = 446.08125 Mhz
CH 8 = 446.09375 Mhz

The calling channel is generally considered to be channel 8. Call CQ and state your callsign (transmission one, charlie tango ect) or you can just use your name/handle, open the squelch on your radio and listen for other stations.

In areas with lots of activity please QSY to another channel after contact is established, however areas with low activity stay on channel 8 as its more likely for other stations to hear and join in who only monitor channel 8.

Please be aware that businesses may use these channels, they have as much right as we do to use them and if you hear any businesses on the frequency change the channel to avoid interference. Also kids tend to use channel one and two so they are not ideal for chatter (unless you want to hear, hello, hello helo all the time :D)

Hopefulyl if we all stick to PMR446 equitquee and radio we can have a nice and enjoyable time on the licence free frequencies :)

Seem's a bit strange that the frequencies stated above are not progressive, maybe you are confused as well ;)

CH 1 = 446.00625 Mhz
CH 2 = 446.01875 Mhz
CH 3 = 446.03125 Mhz
CH 4 = 446.04375 Mhz
CH 5 = 446.05625 Mhz
CH 6 = 446.06875 Mhz
CH 7 = 446.08125 Mhz
CH 8 = 446.09375 Mhz
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

446.04375 MHz (channel 6)
446.06875 MHz (channel 7)
446.09375 MHz (channel 8 )

Methinks you have forgotten something, a few more frequencies.

dPMR446 Channel

Frequency (MHz)

1 446.103125
2 446.109375
3 446.115625
4 446.121875
5 446.128125
6 446.134375
7 446.140625
8 446.146875
9 446.153125
10 446.159375
11 446.165625
12 446.171875
13 446.178125
14 446.184375
15 446.190625
16 446.196875

Now, I'll just turn the dual bander on, and through my collinear, I'll just test the frequencies, clear out a few cobwebs.

And bear in mind that the majority of folk that use PMR446 do not want someone butting in on the side of their conversations for a "rig check". Most PMR446 users only want to talk to the folk in their "group" and can be quite phased by others coming in on the side.

If there are users who don't seem busy I just generally ask for one and if they are startled I explain how pmr446 is a licence free channels for use for everyone

You are correct that's why I put use in europe however in the uk this is the regulations we have and im some other countries only certain channels on pmr446 are permitted and some still require a licence for pmr446 usage but not here in UK

Yes I know the dpmr frequenices but you have to use digital mode there. Most transceivers won't support this and use analoge fm instead.

The vast majority of 446 users are not radio enthusiasts and couldn't give a stuff about any etiquette with calling channels. It isn't a CB service, so if you want to chat away on channel 8 then do so regardless of where you live.

better: it starts on ch.1 with 446.00625mhz and then it went up in 12.5khz steps.
because of the first freq you need the 6.25khz steps. /cleverdickmodeoff ;)
