christmas pmr446 is busy!!!

Post by Excalibur »

Happy christmas to those who all celebrate it. :D

Seems as though today theres lots of kids and adults alike on PMR446. Lots of people got PMR radios for christmas it seems. Theres a load of them on channel 1 right now, can here binatone and cobra roger beeps. Channel seemed very overcrowded
I gave some a signal reports and surprised and amazed that their radios can reach other stations miles away :D

Hopefully some of these kids and adults alike might become more interested in their walkie talkies, see how they can get better range and stuff and maybe just maybe will get more into radio and get an amatuer licence or explore more in scanning/pmr446 :)

I work in an electronics shop, and other than the usual Christmas gift tat, pmr446 radios are always a big seller in the run up to Christmas. Most seem to be parents buying for kids

Or find out about working the planet on 27Mhz as well,as you don't need to sit a test to dx ;).
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

Yeah, I like keying the mic through my set with collinear on 446 (obviously all scaled back to keep within the ERP legal limits) and saying, £25 for that toy, are you mad?

You could have got a dual band 5w Baofeng for that money.

But hey, that's just the nice kind of guy I am.

Wow it's like being in the twilight zone! Same here and I am in a village! Nearly all on channel one and no end of binatone bleeps and kids not letting go of the PTT etc...
I expect it will quiet down in a week or two when the novelty wears off for the majority.

I haven't really noticed any difference this way to be honest.

I am planning on putting up an outdoor antenna (For RX purposes ;) ) so, so hopefully I will get to hear a lot more.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Well I live rural, so it may just be the location, but I've got the white stick on the side of the house and it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference.
