High Power use of PMR446

Post by 26TM944 »

Interesting from the RSGB today ...

High Power use of PMR446
"Ofcom drew attention to recent cases that were being pursued through the courts. Paul Jarvis will submit an article for RadCom to remind amateurs of the regulations in respect of PMR446."

I wonder who has been a bad boy?

I don't think this gov likes the fact that people could buy a radio and be on contact with someone all while going under the radar,just think about how easy it is to hide a PMR446 ant.

They hate what they can't control {bnghd}

Easy way to make a lump of money fast, a month or so of heavy fines.

Ofcom has agreed to let people use 0.5W PMR446 at no cost, and individuals take advantage of the self-policing system by using 5W radios on 446.

I don't see why people should be complaining if they get fined for abusing the system, some even encouraging others to use the dPMR channels for analog radio. Not to mention there was talk about a petition to increase the legal PMR446 ERP power.

Because they knew you would only get out a few hundred yards. I would never dream of using a 5W radio on 446. 45W homebase setup yes. :lol:

I knew this would happen eventually. All the stupid people on here who continue to tell every new user who has no idea what they're doing that its a great idea to use these dPMR446 channels on analog with high powered radios. Or to just buy a baofeng and use it on the normal channels. And people using 25W mobile setups.
Its ruining it for all of us now.

On the hook i love it on here........ :lol:

I love it how people can miss read , what it actually refares to is HAMS in breach of their license conditions using their gear on 446 and NOT unlicensed users using high power on 446.

RSGB have no jurisdiction over unlicensed users.

No but it proves Ofcom have a bee in their bonnet about the misuse of the 446 band.
The general view around here seemed to be Ofcom don't give two hoots as it's a licence free band but it seems not.
