LOL! I'd have thought so... unless it's just some dippy parent using walkie talkies with VOX instead of shelling out for a proper baby monitor.

If you talk back to them they'll probably turn up on some magazine show within the week, all outraged that nobody warned them that other people could listen in to their private channel!

Channels 1 to 8 here in North Suffolk are busy with general users/kids bleeping at each other. We use the 'digital' channel 12. Everyone welcome but stations are far apart so you'll need more than the standard rubber duck. Approx 20 mile radius of Bury St Edmunds.

I work on the East side but live Wetherby side. I'm not convinced that the PMR channels as set on my PSR295 match with PMR handsets well - when I transmit from a handset on ch1 with the scanner switched on, the scanner only seems to receive it on channel 5. I get a better result doing a limit scan around 446mhz.

Ah okay. If you ever want to have a contact on PMR446 just give me a PM with the time. I live at the east side of York. :) Since you live in the York area you can check out my website for pmr446/cb/scanners in York http://pmr446york.boards.net/ :) would be well appreciated

Ah sorry, I work in York but live near to Harrogate. I work in Heslington and have heard a bit of PMR around there since my last post - two chaps loading a skip, I think. On the way through town I also heard what sounds like a primary school. Cheaper for them than a business radio license.

in Redhill, Surrey there is a motorcycle school on channel 8 where the instructor is talking to his students all on bikes, quite funny to hear it but why on channel 8?

It's a licence free, the instructor can use whatever channel he pleases

I'm out radio scanning by Heathrow and use a Baofeng UB-5R to monitor PMR446, 2m and 70cm amateur bands but get a lot of noise from ground staff and NATS. Pity I can hear and personal users
