I'm unable to activate vox in any of my 4 radios. It is activated from software and when trying to activate from radio by holding down ptt and moni, nothing happens.

There is following list of functions in the manual but vox, alarm (whatever it is) and temporary voice prompt deactivation isn't working.

SUMMARY OF MENU FUNCTION ACTIVATION
Ch. 1-5, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
VOX - ON / OFF
Ch. 10, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
Voice Prompt - ON / OFF
Ch. 11, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
Alarm Function ON / OFF (if selected via SW)
Ch. 12, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
Locks Transmitter ON (Power cycle to reset)
Ch. 15, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
Change Language (CHI / ENG)
Ch. 16, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON
Scan ON / OFF (if option set via software)
Ch. 1-16, Press / Hold MONI only and Power ON
Deactivates Voice Prompt for that session only

Does anyone know how these sets compare with TTI 1446 radios? (sensitivity, functions)

I have some TTI sets but they are only 0.5W, though I do use them with Nagoya 771 antennas (they don't fit flush to the unit so look a bit messy)

Would the 888's with a stock antenna and the higher power outperform 0.5W into a 771?

The good thing about having extra 446mhz channels will be that most kids / businesses will already been using the 8 ch versions and it's only the rest off us in the know that are aware off the secret second set !!!

There is only one PMR 446 Channel, Ch 3 in and it is scrambled :?
I think it could be Asdas security or some sort, but Asdas are nationwide allocated for 449.400

Quite disappointed with my latest set. The speaker isn't as good as my earlier model. Sounding more like my tiny uv3r than the 888s I'm used to.
My early 888s has the red lines on the rotary switchgear, a shinier box, bigger baofeng branding and 3 battery connections. The lighter battery in the new ones lasted longer than they claimed though. Days.

I've ordered some of the new BF-999 to try out, but over the years, I've noticed that each batch can be quite different when they switch to different speakers, or other swapped components. Inside, most parts are generic and clearly batched - so sometimes performance is a bit less or a bit better, Impossible to predict on a mass produced, untested or quality checked (apart from I suspect, does it turn on) product. There are also two versions. Some will scramble, and others won't. No way to tell from outside as far as I can see, but I'd bet this is also why some refuse to turn on Vox, or have different noises!

There's definitely 2+ 888s versions. My early pair came in 2 separate boxes, with a mains charger and decent belt clip. I got another pair recently - crammed into one box, with USB chargers and flimsy all-plastic clips. They've also got rid of the 1750Hz repeater tone, so it must be a new firmware release as well.

Paul, if it's the same BF999s as I've just found on eBay, they've been around for a year or so as BF-R5 as well

Hi Bogget, I bought one of these radios years ago after reading your excellent review. Everything is still working great; the radio, battery and the charger. A great radio indeed!
