With the Binatone Action 950 having the hidden ch9 and some other Binatone radios, i now have the new Binatone Marina 900 and have failed to see if it has the hidden ch9.
Does anybody know it this radio has the ch9 hidden.

3 years on..... To access ch9, hold both up and down buttons and switch on. Ch9 is actually 447.00625. you can tx rx as usual but have no ctcss dcs capabilities. As for the power mod, inside there is a switch that hasnt been fitted. I have tried adding one, shorting out the terminals but the radio stays only as 200mW. I have the Binatone action 1000 but should do other models

Re: Binatone Hidden Channel 9
For same reason as Kenwood ts series can go on 27.xxx without being "widebanded"?
Resistance is futile.

There has been much speculation over the years regarding this feature but nobody really knows why its there - apart from the designer perhaps (maybe an easter egg) ?

Weird... If I had to guess, I'd probably go with something for testing.
Fook nose though, could be anything I suppose! Designers hide all kinds of crap in the stuff they make and for all sorts of reasons, from 'service & maintenance' to 'just for the hell of it'... Ever seen any semiconductor IC art? Now that is something else!

Re: Binatone Hidden Channel 9
Yeah probably for testing of some kind I should imagine.
Regarding increasing the power of the Binatones, I dont think it can be done realistically. There is a Brondi branded version of the 950 that has a switch under the sticker in the battery compartment.
Flick the switch and you have about 2 watts output, (video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E96iy6mz8zQ ) but these radios have additional components that are missing from the Binatones.
There was a long thread on here regarding attempts to modify the Binatones. I think this is it:

Re: Binatone Hidden Channel 9
I tried this secret channel 9 which displayed channel 9 but the frequency readout is 446.00625 not 447.00625. So really, all it is is channel 1 displaying channel 9.

Re: Binatone Hidden Channel 9
Frequency readout on what - the same radio?
Does it come through on ch 1 on other radios?
