Iv'e got two words to say to that, Sh1te and sh1teAdmiral wrote: stick 400w up some 5amp insulated flex and you could burn your house down.
Presuming your talking about mains (240 volt) 5 amp flex that could handle in excess of one kilowatt

Explain how Antron 99, Sirio Gainmaster, DV27, Firestick etc. etc. etc. work then, they've all got a whopping big lump of insulation around the radiating element.ch25 wrote:Millions of flies eat $hit, it does not mean it is correct.

Re: Wire inverted V materials ?
It is thread about wire antennas mate. I do not have time or will to educate you about antenna design and performance since it is very well covered by plenty of books available to read if you willing to. Most of CB antennas are built against any science and I do not want to waste my time to analyse that curiosity.
Want know more I suggest reading Rothammel antenna book, Low band Dxing and so on.
You will be amazed how little things can make a huge change in your antenna system.

You're quite right, me ole fruit, aerials like the gainmaster are wire antennas...
The aerial wire of a sloping vee is already surrounded by an effective insulator (air) adding another will have no noticeable impact. In fact it should help with an external antenna as it will slow down oxidisation and keep the wire in good condition.

Blimey, I think I'll do one leg with the insulator on and one with it off, just to be safe !

Re: Wire inverted V materials ?
Plastic or rubber insulation does have a loading effect on wire dipoles. I once made an inverted V from 3mm diameter mains cable and had to trim about 50mm of each side to get the SWR down.
A great antenna for DX - cheap as chips.

Yeah, about 3%-5% difference in length due to velocity factor changes but nothing else.JB wrote:Plastic or rubber insulation does have a loading effect on wire dipoles. I once made an inverted V from 3mm diameter mains cable and had to trim about 50mm of each side to get the SWR down.

Leaving the insulation on the wire just alters the resonant lenth. Thatsxall
