New lease of life.

Post by kingfisher »

Well I hope the xyl is very forgiving. I have a renewed interest in the hobby after many years. So many homebrew projects that I am considering, Have been rooting through the garage for my electronic tool kit, Have some materials on the way through ebay and I am digging holes in the garden for make shift masts. Looks like she has lost her dining room table again! As that's my new workbench! :shh:

I know that I can't have a 50ft mast here like the previous house that was out in the countryside as now live in a town house and I think I would have the council knocking on the door so will have to test the waters with a couple of separate 20 ft poles as the last 9 years of living here the neighbours have no idea that I am a ham. I will have a friendly chat with them and explain my hobby and ask whether they mind but I don't know whether they will be expecting to see strange looking homemade J poles and beams.

First job would have to be knocking up a professional looking 17 element beam for 70cms as there is an old tv yagi that's never been used and I don't think that anyone would even notice that it is not a normal tv yagi. I know that I couldn't get away with a stealth 2 meter yagi.

What I really really need is a pump up mast. Anyone got one who is feeling charitable? I will promise to make good use of it! :D

I use a crank-up Tennamast. the top of the mast comes down below the roof-line when not in use, but expands to a respectable 10m in height when cranked up. Much less hassle than a pneumatic mast, as there are no seals to worry about or noisy compressors to make it go up
