For DX work, the dipole is still a good option.
Local work on the CB would be better done with a vertical antenna.
All the old technology is the same today, with a few newer names doing what was being done then, and old names gone away.
Some types have come into greater prominence because of the internet. Look at the Moxon beam, for example.

Its true, Everyone will say something different, But if your after DX than a directional antenna is the way to go if you've the room.. Three element yagi... or a small two element quad would allow you to work some real good DX... why stop at two or three elements, Why not a 10 element vertical / horizontal yagi, Dual polarization at the flick of a switch.... Nice. :D

Thanks for the feedback on dipoles etc I'm going to get some studying done I have an old 1 into 3 splitter so I could maybe rig cpl dx and a local vertical and run on splitter would that work and would they all hold swr switching between them for whatever work I was doing ...

I think a minimum of a half wave bottom loaded vertical is a good all rounder, I've used one for years and they are like £25.

As soon as mine snaps, I will replace it with something longer maybe a Sigma 4 copy.

I diverse a bit.But I remember about 1981 time there was a couple who lived in Warwick. They had there baby in the pram,Then under the pram they had a 12 volt car battery on the carrier. On the front of the pram he had drilled a hole and fitted a DV27,Front of pram there was a board across with his CB fitted ..That caused alot of laughs as he and his wife went out and about.
If the problen cant be sorted with a "LUMP-HAMMER" then its most likely to be an Electrical fault

Well for me i made lots of antennas and always found the quad to be the better antenna for dx when on 11m. if youi build it correct it will do you well if you have the space if not then work out what space you have and try a single quad loop or two )
