I always fancied one of these myself

The E1 - I will own one someday lol. I do have a Sony 2001D - a bit long in the tooth now, but a great receiver in its time and also has VHF airband as well as full SW 0-30 SSB and FM Broadcast band.

Might be designed by Porsche, but it's bloody ugly! (the radio in the first post)

I fancy buying myself a nice portable HF RX again & was thinking either a nice little, but old Sony or a AR88.
Seriously though I have been watch fleabay for a nice little portable RX.
So I passed this test that allows me to twiddle with knobs, push buttons & call my self an Advanced !!!!!!!

Hi All,

Get a Degen DE1103 (if you haven't already got one). They are a great little receiver and really good value (well...they were before money went silly recently but I've not checked to see how it has affected prices of things from China).
They are not to the same standard as the E1 but are (well my two are better on FM) easily equal to the E5. If you have not seen one then check out my post in the Broadcast/TV DX forum:-
http://www.transmission1.co.uk/index.ph ... pic&t=6460
Its dimensions are 170mm x 105mm x 30mm, so quite small and convenient and they cover 100kHz to 30Mhz (there is a trick to extend this range), AM/SSB and 76MHz to 108MHz FM.

Best wishes, John.
