I hear the FDNY are giving out new Motorola radios that work on VHF (around 155MHz for a few building specific repeaters), 400Mhz on site and 470Mhz main dispatch channels as well as 700 and 800Mhz for interoperability. Can't find the story now, it might have been on a forum but they are something like the APX 8000XE.

What can the LFB radios do?

Lots of us are in the UK - our tiny country makes HF fire radio here pointless, but the size and location of the population in Australia is completely different, but I think none of use know anything about it - and with HF of course you need plenty of frequencies to cope with the propagation changes - so I guess any of the commercial bands could be useful places to listen - but I suspect it's a rare thing to hear as you've not found it yourself in two years!

If I can remember rightly fire service used 80 something MHz some years ago before moving to UHF in the UK.

I wouldn't have thought they would have used HF in the UK, I know the police used to be on shortwave back in the 60s so its possible the fire service used HF as well around the same time.

In countries like Australia where large wild fires happen in vast areas of land it would make sense for the fire service to use HF for longer distance communications.
