I would like to know if a good portable receiver for dxing tuning low signal pirate stations exist to plug to a diapole antenna

New or used?

I only know about old skool stuff and my fave is the Sony ICF2001D, if you can find one in good nick they are excellent.

I just picked up one of these as good as new in the box for £35 ($43) Rock solid stability on SSB and decent sound quality.

Tecsun PL660.

I second the 660. At £110 it's now kicking around for £30 more than I paid for it but if you're not bothered about airband or synchronous detection, its forerunner, the PL-600 is going for around £60

Have a look at item 172036898107 on the old e/bay for a degen de1103 .

For me it would have to be the tried and tested yupiteru mvt 7100 scanner works very well on hf bands just with the supplied whip antenna.

Kaito KA1102 works really well for me too, have had good USB/LSB reception and if given a longwire will extend the reception. I was also going to get a Tecsun. Stu on this forum has a Tecsun I believe, he and others can testify to how good they are! I do have a Sony ICF 2001d Fantastic set! It's staying in the scanner rack!

Yupiteru mvt-7100 connected to various antenna's for me. Listen to 160m, 80m, 40m, HFair, 118>136airband etc etc, when time allows which is getting less as time goes on. Caravan Touring takes up most of my time now so radios will have to go very shortly. I will keep my Eton Satellit-750 for home use though.

Since I acquired my little Eton G3 Traveler I haven't used my 7100.

Jeez, at this price (Amazon) I might just buy one of those

EDIT = Just read the reviews, many of them are less that encouraging

Unless you are on a very tight budget I wouldn't recommend the G3 as a main set, but to chuck in the suitcase for hotel stop overs and as a bedside set it is great value for money.

I used to like the Sony & Sangean receivers but since getting a Tecsun they've now been abandoned and sold.
