Fairhaven rd500

Just wondered if anybody here ever uses this for HF. I plan to use mine this winter for some 10m repeater dx on FM. Unfortunately the ssb on mine no longer tunes properly so it's useless there. On Vhf and Uhf it's very sensitive and selective.

If you ever get fed up with it then drop me a line :D

They appear to be like hens teeth at the moment. I had two once upon a time, downsized and virtually gave them away, slightly regretting that now.

Sorry mate, not thinking of selling mine! I'm holding out for a bigger house to get a wee radio room up and running! Although I'll be in need of getting my AOR AR2002 looked at, as it's humming and not receiving anything nor do I get sound from the speaker. I reckon possibly dry joints etc need looked at.

I have no idea what they are worth in todays market, but I think it was 2001 or 2002 when I went through a very dark stage in my radio life and got rid of a lot of gear.

I had two RD500s, absolutely identical and pristine, I flogged the pair for £500, which was stupid money as they cost me nearly a grand each.

If someone was selling a good one for £250 in 2015 then I'd be tempted to rip their arm off.

I saw one very recently on amazon going for the usual £500 mark. Just treated myself to an AOR AR DV1, so for the time being, new radio acqusitions will be pipe dreams! (doesn't stop me eyeing up the JRC NRD 5xx series or the Comm CR1a receivers!) :D

At the risk of de-railing the thread - how's the DV1, strat? I'm days away from pulling the trigger here.

Andy, so far I am still getting to grips with it! It does come with an A4 size instruction manual of several pages! Physically It's a bit longer than my bct15x! You get a 4gb sd card with it, however, the maximum gb's it will take are 32gb, so be advised! Not too keen on some of the facade (button colour options) in the main configuration menu! I've stuck it on cyan as the others take a bit of getting used to!
I wish it had a better contrast and backlight control (compared to the bct15x which has better lighting control). But will update you in a little while! I would definitely recommend it though! :D

Excellent Andy! You're going to have a lot of fun with it believe me! I'll post more up in the dv1 section. But welcome to the dv1 club!

Press SHIFT key 8 and you can work your way through the step sizes. There is also a handy manual site https://manualslib.com/manual/988067/fa ... e=2#manual

Hope that helps.

Back to the topic, I've packed away the rd500 for now, I'm going to get a new power cable for it, what are the dimensions of the barrel connector I need for the power supply? Can't be arsed digging out the radio at the moment! Thanks!
