BBC Radio 4 LW: 198 kHz In Europe

Post by kiwi272 »

I'm going to Europe soon on a mini 1 week road trip around Austria and Northern Italy. I know you can receive Radio 4 and 5 in Northern Europe, but will I be able to receive it high up in the alps...just curious

I'd be interested as well, I'm off to Lake Garda (Bardolino) soon. I'll be taking my portable. I'll report back anyway.

At a guess....

Given the fact I can hear Deutschlandfunk on 153 from Donebach at 500000 Watts

Radio 4 will probably be OK in Italy

EDIT: I take that back, Donebach is 586miles, Bardolino is 817miles.
The signal from Donebach last night was not so clear.

I have heard you can get 5Live down near Paris. It will just depend on the conditions and any local stations.

My Ham Radio tutor used to listen to radio 4 LW in Turkey quite a few years ago

Radio 4 LW dead here in Italy, even at night. It's a bit strange to tune into 198 and hear static.
