AOR AR3000A

Post by radiovic »

I have one on the way to me

Is there anyone out there using one?

How might it compare to my Yaesu 8800 on HF?

Bearing in mind things have moved on since they 1st came out.......how do they hold up ...are they still regarded as good?

My main interests are HF and VHF airband

Thanks
Vic

The FRG-8800 will outshine it on HF. Putting a HF preselector in front of the AR3000A will narrow the gap on HF.

Sensitivity is very good but the AM filter is too wide. There is no option to switch to AM -N.

I love my 3000A, except just recently the encoder skips when advancing frequency, it's spot on going backwards, but forwards it's all over the place, and can I source a new encoder? Not a chance, been looking for months. So the radio is pretty much unusable on HF, when it was scrolling smoothly through the frequencies without jumping, the HF was as good, if not better than any sub-£300 dedicated HF set.

Is the encoder a little Alps 3-pin thing, Admiral?

Yep my encoder jumps as well. It's not too bad though.
