Airband scanning via SDR

Post by LijongTao »

The last scanner I owned was the Yupiteru 7100 and enjoyed airband on that. I'd like to give computer based scanning a go but don't know what equipment I'd need. It has been a while. I have an outdoor pole mounted royal discone doing nothing so want to know which is the simplest dongle to get to listen to airband and local frequencies, and is it a steeeeeep learning curve?
any info is welcome. thanks Li

A good starting point would be the RTL-SDR (R820T)

Lots of information here http://www.rtl-sdr.com/about-rtl-sdr/
