Hi all,
having just made a Di Pole for airband, which way up should it be. Centre of coax upright and braided bit downside or doesn,t it matter,
Thanks , Andy.

Re: Di Pole Question
In theory the centre (radiating) element up to get the maximum gain due to height, but in reality I doubt there'd be a lot in it for RX only.

Re: Di Pole Question
Just remember that on VHF a dipole is about the crappiest antenna possible unless it's about 600ft up.

Re: Di Pole Question
I Used to install caged dipoles at most airports in the early 80's with no problem.

Re: Di Pole Question
Hi Admiral, if as you say a dipole is the crappiest antenna for VHF what type of antenna would you recomend to use for the civil air band ?

My dipoles work great. So simple, but so efective
