Best home base air band receiver

Post by StormShadow »

Whats the best home base air band receiver? I'm looking for something big and chunky that has a frequency read out display and if I can get something that covers military air band as well then that would be a bonus. Could anybody recommend what radio to look for?

No recommendations, but something that is actually an air band scanner, rather than 'also does AM' would be my choice.
Saying that, I have an Icom IC A6E at work and a tin can and a bit of string would be better.

I have a Uniden Bearcat BCT 15 X , yaesu 965,AOR AR 2002 thus far in my collection, all perform well and I would say for a compact scanner to listen to both civil and military stuff,Bearcat BCT 15 X. having said that,I'm still not finished with my scanner buying! I've a few yet to get hold of!

Do you want to scan or just manually tune around? For manual tuning, a Software Defined Radio hooked up to the computer can be excellent, I've had excellent results with mine. And all for less than a 20 note - you might as well try it, experiment with aerials before you decide to spend more.
