Does anyone know if the helis working Anglia radar have an air to air frequency?

123.45 is (as far as I know) a unofficial air to air frequency.

123.45 is actually defined by the ICAO as an air to air frequency.

"4.1.3.2.1    An air-to-air VHF communications channel on the frequency of 123.45 MHz shall be designated to enable aircraft engaged in flights over remote and oceanic areas out of range of VHF ground stations to exchange necessary operational information and to facilitate the resolution of operational problems."

No doubt bureaucrats will have an argument about what constitutes a "remote" area.

Since Google has become obstructive about allowing you to copy links, you'll have to search for it yourself. Try ICAO and 123.45 look for a DOC under icao.int

118.0 is also used now and again as an A2A.

What are these helicopters you refer to?

Helis out of Humberside, Norwich and North Denes carrying equipment and personnel to the gas rigs in the southern North Sea. They all work Anglia Radar which is based at NATS Aberdeen.

Various web sites give a dozen or so freqs used by various oil rigs.
Some seem to be shared by multiple rigs in the same area, so might also be used for A2A.
If the rig is a long way from land, any low level freq might be used.

You might try these for starters:
122.02500
122.32500
122.37500
122.87500
123.62500
123.65000
125.17500
129.77500
129.95000
130.87500
133.57500

I can't confirm any of these personally, so no idea how accurate or up to date this list is.

Most of the rig frequencies are shared between neighbouring rigs in the same field. The rig frequency is used to give the helis traffic information & rig status prior to landing. The rest of the time they are talking to Anglia Radar.

Thanks for that information chaps, interesting docs. Heli traffic in and out of HBR seems on the up.
