Edinburgh airport very weak

Post by elliotg » 24 Jul 2013, 10:35

Hi
Over the last few days Edinburgh airport freqs have been very weak and are normally crystal clear from my location. Is not a antenna fault as i have tried several antennas with same results. Glamdring do you have any of your expert knowledge? Cheers

Maybe he's upgraded the tower comms to use an A99 ;-)

There have been quite a few lightning strikes in the area recently, in fact a Ryanair flight was hit just after taking off from Edinburgh yesterday. Maybe the main antenna got frazzled and they're using a backup?

I'm sure I saw him posting that he was off on holiday in another thread...

...perhaps he just belts it out way louder than all the other controllers at EDI.

The guy who sits next to him is probably very releaved that he is on leave right now.

I sit next to a right boomer at work. I hate it when he gets a phone call and the thought of him spending all day talking into a radio actually makes me shiver with dread...

It will have been to do with the weather, usually during certain conditions you will find signals pick up or drop off a bit no matter how close you are. It's as though when it's been clear, just like a clear motorway, you can get through no problem, but add some conditions to the mix and it's got the same effect as a slower flow of traffic.Probably the static build up in the atmosphere will not have helped much.

That's a better explanation than anything I can think of ;)

Thanks Chris! I had read it back a few days later and realised I could have simplified the explanation a little more! But as long as what was conveyed was understood! :D
