Ok so I have a Yaesu FT-450D and I have just managed to be able to get a PC into the shack.
My question to you chaps, is what exactly can I do with the FT-450D through a computer?
and what cables will I be needing etc?
I have operated the FT-450D on air many times, but never got into doing anything else with the radio.
any information, advice or suggestions will be appreciated

I am a bit crazy about the Realistic DX-394
Re: Yaesu FT-450D
You can control the FT-450D through the serial port using either and application like Ham Radio Deluxe or if you can write your own software make your own - it is more fun!

Re: Yaesu FT-450D
thanks for the reply mate,
I noticed on the back of the FT-450d that there is two ports, one for CAT cable and one for DATA cable.
I don't suppose you know the uses and functions of such cables?
I'm guessing the Data cable is for PSK etc? CAT cable is for controlling the FT450D as you said?

Exactly mate, the RS232 port is for controlling the rig using CAT commands and the data port is for PSK, FSK, JT data modes.RedDragon wrote:thanks for the reply mate,

Re: Yaesu FT-450D
ok thanks for the info mate.
I am now sitting here in the shack typing this, in front of me i have my computer and my ft-450, and a CAT cable.
now my next task is to try find the link to the software to control the rig via the computer

Hi Red Dragon.
With regards to your FT450D
Go to Waters&Stanton and ask for RT Systems radio software for Yaesu FT450D.
Just load it in and follow (really simple) the on screen prompts.
Hope this will be of use to you.
They sell in USA for $49 but going to W&S is easier.
They also provide a USB to 9pin connector for the back of the pc.
Regards,
Billy.

Re: Yaesu FT-450D
I use Flrig on Linux for CAT control of an FT-450D - works very well once I actually read things and bothered to match the comms speed - I had 38400 one and and 4800 the other! D'oh.
