Re: Scan125 New Release

Post by scan125 »

I think the chances are slim to be honest. I've no knowledge of the 3500 scanner but that is not an initial issue.

People have asked for support of the UBC75XLT scanner which is very very similar to the BC/UBC125/126 scanners and has an almost identical API command set. The big stumbling block is that the 75XTL display is totally different to the 125 series displays. Please read on.

What sets Scan125 apart from other offerings is it's full scanner control INCLUDING a virtual scanner display. Yes Scan125 has bells and whistles but the key foundation stone is the virtual display and console. No other program offers that.

So what is the big deal? Simply this. Uniden scanners do not supply screen information via the USB port. Scan125 has to build it's "virtual" display by analysing data request responses and then mapping and decoding these onto a virtual/mimic display.

To do this decoding and mapping requires unlimited access, with no time restriction, to the device to be supported. Scan125 took at least a year to build from scratch with 100% access to my own personal scanner AND HERE IN IS THE PROBELM with support for other scanners.

I really appreciate the interest in Scan125 being made to support other Uniden scanners but as free program I develop in my own free time (as/when/etc) I can not afford to buy or rent other scanners and the loan of a scanner, even if that loan was open ended with no time restriction, puts my own personal pressure on myself to deliver as quickly as possible. Similarly if an individual were to give me a scanner I do not want that pressure. Were Uniden to give me a scanner and write it off at their end, with no pre conditions or expectations etc., then I would possibly consider supporting it as this is then a completely different ball game.

If this helps people understand then I have owned an Alinco DX-R8 since December 2015. Since Dec 2015 I have been working on a control program called DriveR8. I'm almost ready for my 1st release but the quality level I'm looking for and function support is not quite there yet. Not far away and a little longer is required. Meanwhile I've not really had the opportunity and time to enjoy using my DX-R8 for the reason I bought it, i.e. to HF listen etc. Somehow I got caught up in writing software for it as opposed enjoying it! What a MUG I am :)

Thanks for the info Nick, from my angle I suspect it would make more sense for me to trade my 3500 against a 125.

Re: Scan125 New Release

Point of information/correction. Back in a Feb 2017 post I said.

"What sets Scan125 apart from other offerings is it's full scanner control INCLUDING a virtual scanner display. Yes Scan125 has bells and whistles but the key foundation stone is the virtual display and console. No other program offers that. "

I've now discovered that Butel ARC125 in their latest V2 now has some form of "virtual control/display" function. With this in mind I have to redact the "No other program offers that." remark I made back in Feb.2017 (was true at time of posting).

Nice to see the competition catching up with Scan125 :)

I've just released V2.5.0.0 of the Scan125 Control Program.

This release contains NEW function.

A BIG change is that I have removed the free registration requirement. This means I will lose track of the number of users and countries where Scan125 is used, but I have added the ability for people to send me comments, good or bad.

See http://www.nick-bailey.co.uk/scan125 for details.

This is for Uniden UBC125XLT, BC125AT, UBC126AT and Albretcht AE125H Scanners.
