If you follow the same instructions re the 3.5mm lead as previously mentioned then download the below freeware

http://www.davee.com/scanrec/

This has a squelch to allow the recieve audio threshold to be set

after a bit of tinkering with it you will find it far more useful than the windows recorder

It will only then record when a tx is recieved thus saving disk space

i use this and it is very good

I use a program called RecALL, I just put my scanner on and when anything interesting happens i record it, I simply let my scanner talk into my Mike and it records :?:D

Ill try and get a Link to download For ANYONE who wants it.

I'm also assuming that you have Windows on your system.

You'll need a 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... =&doy=27m1).

Connect the two devices together. Output from headphone jack on IC-R5 to the line input (or mic in) on your PC.
Hi, never connect headphone jack to - MIC IN - unless a pair of resistors are used to lower the power ratio by 10 : 1 to .01volt max.

By far the best recording program i have found is Xcorder
The creator seems to have a problem at his site but i can supply a direct download from my own. simply connect your scanner to the input and when the squelch opens it records.
I will supply the site address even though it appears to be faulty
