Well, the cable ties that were holding my Shakespeare Super Big Stick to my clothes pole finally gave out, so it'll need to wait till I get some clamps tommorrow.
Will the next movie in the series be The Fast and The Funeral?

on the subject of antennas i see knights are selling the sirio starduster for?43.95.strangely the original thunderpole(sort of similar) used to sell for around ?25.00.
obviously times change and theres a lot of water under the bridge since then and its nice to see an original antenna,(and yes i know some people didnt like them!).
anyhow due to greed from manufacturers and their component suppliers the antenna has nearly doubled in price,,thats life i supose!!...5ft firestik used to work well on top there! :P

Started out with the good old faithfull dv 27 on a biccy tin and soon progressed to a 7ft firesick which i bought a proper groundplane kit for and chucked it up in the loft..
Soon realised this was'nt gonna do the whole dx thing so bought a 4 section gp27..these where made really good and from quality alloy back then and it lasted quite some time and took some serious abuse from the weather untill one day the 40ft of scaffolding it was sat on top of decided to give up...it actually twisted the bracket out of the garage wall in high winds and landed accross three gardens taking next door fence with it..oops
Then bought a three section alcom which also came down in high winds and altho bent to bits still worked well..
Swapped the alcom for a mighty magnum 3 which did really well i did a lot of dx work on this antenna and only sold it to upgrade to an avanti sigma 2 which i bought from a shop clearance for £42 back in 1985..
This one was mounted to the back of the parent house on a 10ft scaffy so just cleared the eves of the roof nicely....not for long tho as soon as the parents went on holidy the 10ft scaffy joined forces with a 20ft scaffy and up it went to a new level much to the annoyance of the neighbours..
Worked really well on my ham jumbo and bremi brl200 linear and that was my last set up before i sold up in 1987..
I now have another sigma 2 for the nostalgia and an nos astro plane just deciding what i dare put up on my new residence without upsetting anyone!!

I have had a few.

Mobile I have had a Half breed copy, DV27, original Modulator, one of those Sunker things, a Springer and a Tank whip.

Homebase I started off with a Hembro Half wave silver rod back in 1992, then went to a Solarcon A99. Now I have a Sirio GPE27 5/8

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

I once worked some stations in the USA using a chainlink fence that ran around a local factory :o
It did need the help of an ATU, but it worked.

The best aerial I Have ever had was in a Sirio 2012 on 21ft scaffolding pole mounted to a very well concreted whirly gig base. It worked amazingly with a good old Stalker 9FDX and a CTE speedy valve amp. I got up one morning and somebody had stolen it , never to be seen again.
