Anytone AT6666 crazy power

Post by TO66 »

I brought an Anytone 6666 2 months ago from an ali express seller and I was so impressed with it I thought i'd buy another...... WOW did I get more than I expected...... so it arrives and I hook it up to see if it works OK and right out of the box it does 92 watts on ssb 61 on FM and 40 on AM ..... my 1st one from this seller was right on the money power wise as to what it said on the box which i'm more than happy with. Testing the radio with a friend 40km away he tells me it sounds fantastic..... better than both my yaesu ham rigs that I brought new and have never been opened , I'm blown away...... so I did something I never do and opened the radio to see if it had the pots screwed up all the way....... but no there set about the same as the first radio I brought which I opened as a comparison rig...... next thing I did was I decided to turn up the ssb power to see if it had any head room , you bet it has...... I turned that little pot and tested the power..... 123 watts on ssb...... i'm like WTF...... decided to do the same on my first radio and that topped out at 86 watts on ssb...... I set both radios back to 60 watts on ssb and 30 watts on FM and 10 watts AM.... these radios get very hot on FM and ssb when worked for a while and I don't wanna pop em. Has anyone else seen this kind of crazy power output from these radios right out of the box??? I have seen a couple of vids on youtube saying they can get 100 watts out after tuning..... but this is mad. Did I just get a crazy radio ??? Let me know if there is anyone else out there that has experienced the same thing with a brand new radio...... I'm truly shocked.

How did you measure power? What meter, antenna/dummy load?

Used a dummy load and a Nissi DG503 digital meter...... also put it through my antron 99 with the same readings...... My standard ham rigs give me 98watts and 101 watts through the same setup so i've no reason to doubt the meter at all...... yeah I know it sounds nutz but believe me I was as stunned as you probably are .

These if anywhere near accurate, mean it won't last long!

The FQP13N10 in the AT6666 I had pushed out 50W CW and about 60W SSB with 13.8V. The heatsink was pushing 100C after a few minutes. These old TO220 FETs are not designed to do this job...

I agree that kind of power will kill this small radio in short order , that's why I took it back to standard power on ssb and less than standard on the other modes right after testing. Max watts is not what I'm about.... besides I have a 1kw linear if I want a little more..... no need to stress the radio itself.

All I really wanted to know was has anyone one else had a radio like this that is much more than expected right out of the box.....

Yes I did the same as you 120 watt I got out of mine and guess what the board melted tracks lifted and mosfets blew radio now totally wrecked... Before I turned it up it was 100 on the classing in temperature then burnt my hand. In my opinion stick with the 7900 same board but only 3 mosfets plus bigger case like 6900. No heat problem.... Shame the 9900 has potential but needs to be in bigger case.

It's no trick these Anytones just have really good audio I guess..... I also get the same great audio on my 5555n...... The Chinese do get some things right..... it's not that the yaesu audio is bad at all the anytone is just better.
