sirio gpe27 5/8 wave

Post by gmham »

Guys Sirio GPE27 5/8 wave version requires the top rod section to be set for swr depending on freq ( chart supplied ) any other owners off this antenna advise me where this measurement is taken from ? from where the rod exits to the bottom off the collar that holds the static ball or to the very tip off the antenna just below the static ball ( at top off collar ) ?

I think it is from the top of the collar to the top of the ball, but without looking at the instructions I cannot remember.

I cannot remeber for sure, it was years since I put the antenna up. You may have to try measuring below the ball and see what happens. I know that the measurements on the leaflet were pretty much spot on.

Just had a look on the sirio website at the intruction manual, and you are meant to measure to just beneath the ball to the top of the collar. 562mm is the correct length for 27.5Mhz

That is what I set my one to and it worked straight off.

Here's a strange one Simon, I see the instructions supplied with the Sirio gpe27 have changed. I first noticed that now it clearly shows where you measure the distance from on the top tuning rod but more strangely the swr V freq chart has changed ?!

The newly updated instructions available online for the 5/8 wave version show the following freq v swr table :

26.4 mhz = 850mm for the 5/8 wave version.
27 mhz = 642mm
27.185mhz = 600mm
27.500mhz = 487mm
28.000mhz =340mm
28.500mhz =183mm
29.000mhz=15mm

The table supplied with my own Sirio gpe27 5/8 wave purchased from Nevada just weeks ago comes with a tuning table and was also showing online a few weeks ago as showing :

26.700mhz = 900mm
27.000mhz =816mm
27.185mhz =760mm
27.500mhz =664mm
28.000mhz =512mm
28.500mhz =354mm
29.000mhz =204mm
29.500mhz =54mm

..............

So for instance 28.5 mhz shows a length off 183mm on one table and 354mm on the newer instructions.

Strange ???????!

The newer version has less sections, 5 plus the top bit.

It is the longer set of measurements you need.

Okay cheers Simon to be honest never knew there was a newer version ? how many sections did the older one have ? Sure paperwork for all versions showed five sections with just the tuning table being different ? Interestingly my one has five sections plus the tuning rod and came with the other shorter measurements ie.115mm for 28.5 ?

Still awaiting it being erected otherwise obviously could have answered my own question !!

Is it 19.5 in total with the tuning rod ? Does yours have the static ball at the top ?

They used to be 6 sections plus the tuning bit. Unfortunately mine is the shorter one, but it still seems to work very well.

Strangely enough spoke to tech advisor at Sirio antennas in Italy this week and he could not understand why two sets of instructions for this antenna ? I have just checked there website and I see its been changed back to the original instructions / original tuning table ?!
