I have a spiderpole 12mt telescopic fibreglass pole what sort of antenna would you mount on it for 27.555 , I have no garden to speak of and i am surrounded by many very tall buildings anyone got any thoughts please ???

Too long for 1/4 GP, you could build 5/8, but you need a coil and at least 3 radials. To do that you need to do some machining work and have antenna analyser. SWR meter it's not enough.
Not worth the effort IMO.

Do you have some upper support for the pole as with anything of use on top it will be rather top heavy?

I'd suggest a full-size 5/8ths ground-plane for local work and or something like a 3 or 4 element Sirio Yagi for skip. I only suggest the Sirio as it's fairly lightweight not because it outshines bigger and better directional antennas.
