Full wave loop for 11m
Hi all,has anyone built a full wave loop for 11m on here?also what is the Performance like compared to an inverted v dipole.im thinking in making one as a secondary antenna.also is there any companies out there make them for 11m

Re: Full wave loop for 11m
Horizontal loop will have much higher radiation angle than inv V. Ground influence too.
If you can hang it vertically will be much better.

Re: Full wave loop for 11m
Yes I made one a while ago, for 10m mind. It hung as a vertical triangle, apex up, spreader at the bottom with a 4:1 current balun at the centre, so it was about 3m/3m/3m
Tried it on the local net, but as they all just using verticals it wasn't that good and as the band is so quiet these days it didn't stay up long.
Best compromise antenna I've put up that would do 11m locally and decent UK/Europe ham was a simple inverted L with remote base tuner

Re: Full wave loop for 11m
I have one installed in my loft. It is mounted horizontally fed using a 4:1 balun. As noted in a previous reply, the angle of radiation on 10/11m band is very high. This makes it not too good for ground wave (which in my locale makes no difference to me). As for working sporadic E or F2 propagation it works OK. I have worked much of Western Europe and made a few. QSO's into South America. An advantage is however, it is a quieter antenna than many and does not suffer from too much QRN. It's an easy antenna to build without a balun using a 75ohm quarter wave tuning stub in lieu thereof.
If I were going to mount it vertically I would not use a full wave loop, a Quad loop or Delta loop would be a superior performer with the alternative of horizontal or vertical polarization depending on where the feed is positioned.
Hope this has been a help and tempted your curiosity.

Hi all and thanks for the information.anyone compared it to an inverted v?I think if I make one I will feed it at the bottom.

Re: Full wave loop for 11m
The only other time I made a dedicated 10m antenna was a double bazooka, which is close to a dipole, I had it in the loft as inverted V.
It did very well, getting across to the states on FM, but that was a different year and so cant be compared to the delta loop described earlier.
It also worked on 6m as well to some degree, a bonus as it was not the intention.

the single element quad loop i make are very good ,they operate like 2 x 1/4 wave antennas i feed mine from the 3pm position or 9pm position there very quiet and very good on performance if you want il build you one for nothing etc as i have 2 or 2 knocking about..

I use a Mfj mag loop which is 4ft off ground on my rotator,I live really low down with hills 3 sides of me.its best antenna I have and works great on 11m as well as other bands it works on.

Thread resurrection...
can you talk me through this loop, cant see well from the picture.
Is it symmetrical, where is it fed, do you use a 2:1 balun / matching stub ?

36 foot of wire 1.5mm ,5ft 10 inches of 75 ohm tv coax that's your quarter stub match ,then attach your 50 ohms coax to the TV coax ,the swr should be 1.1.1 upto 1.1.5 over 1 mhz

Re: Full wave loop for 11m
I made one the other day using co-ax and a 2:1 balun, fed at the bottom. Not sure of the length, it was cut and test, repeat repeat
Balun allows it to be used on 6m as well
So far it seems to be just shy of the antron (same height) apart from some DX
Where is your fed?

I keep thretening to make one of these but never got round to it...

Could be scaled up to a fullwave, but you may need to tweak the design to prevent it sagging under its own weight.
