Nice . Can't beat the old 5 band silver Jackson . Do the AGC mod on it , and recap it while you're there . Job done
Cheers Sammy  ,might do what you say about the AGC,may recap it at some point (no rush for that though) ,i do hear a little talk-back through the speaker which is very noticeable especially if i whistle into the microphone on SSB,a little annoying,is there a known remedy from this??,not that i sit around whistling into microphones all day like some do on 555

Yeah Shaun . The 2830 probably needed the recap more than the Jackson . Saying that the last silver Jackson I had started to have niggly little faults that may , or may not have been capacitor related . Think they were made around 86 , so it won't do it any harm . Not to sure about the talk-back . Does it do it through the ext.sp too ?

Hi Sammy pal,yep i will check the Jackson out using an extension speaker & see if that makes any difference.

As for the 2830 it was bought (circa 1988) from a Company called Raycom based on Wolverhampton Road,Oldbury, the company was owned & run by a Ray Withers ,G4KZH (now deceased) and from what i can make out he was the main supplier for the 2830 here in the UK for £259 posted,he also sold them with a transvertor to run them on 2 meters (see advert on page 2) ,also a decent review of the 2830 from page 26 & it mentions that Ray Withers lent them a 2830 for the review...

https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Ar ... 988-08.pdf

It seems he was a very colourful & controversial figure within the hobby of radio & not a favourite of the DTI's ,
page 8 & 9 on this link  ...

https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Ar ... 989-02.pdf

Lastly a google search throws up lots of stuff about him,how much of it is true is anybodies guess now...

That's exactly how I got my Galaxy DX-2547 and Superstar 4900B for peanuts. Minus the port though. Nick worked his magic with the Galaxy as it was only 40 channels on AM and SSB.

Do all of your bargains work?

Good Stuff on the Galaxy & the Superstar  ,well up to now i have been lucky as everything has worked, the Superstar 360FM i recently got for peanuts (£16.50) also works fine & so i had Nick pic-chip it to give it 1-40 Muppets :)

Might need a retune, and it's missing a couple of rubber buttons.

To be honest Shaun I don't think any of the 2830s were made in the Philippines . Think they were too early for that . I might be wrong .....
