Strange Lincoln mod?

Post by FAFFER »

Maybe it's a common one, can't say I'm that well up on them. But would be interested to know what it's doing...?

Some sort of tx relay, tie wrapped in, then a transistor and a resistor added between the two "Don't ADJ" signs..

Any ideas?

Cheers, Paul.

Possibly to eliminate talkback?

Is it a old original Lincoln from the 80's /90's or one of the new ones based on the Anyclone radios ? cos if it's a old school one the don't have talk back fitted and TBH looking at that PCB in the pic it looks like a original one.

It's a 1999 model according to the sticker on the top. Output is a mrf 455 if that helps.

Cheers.

The original Lincoln did indeed have talkback fitted and it looks like that's what the modification is.

In the1999 version there was no talkback feature. This was only present in the very first Lincoln's/2830's manufactured in Taiwan (with the grey control knobs). People generally disliked it so had mods done to remove the talkback feature.

The talkback feature was factory removed from the radio's on the second run (with the black control knobs) which were made in the Philippines.

Having the MRF455 output yours is definitely a very late model, so should have no need at all for the talkback mod.

The relay would be there to disconnect the audio to the speaker during RX and stop the tailback.

Is there a wire going from the relay to the internal speaker?

No I don't think so. I just think the blue and white wires go to the other side of the board. :)

My mate has it now, it works fine! We were just interested in wtf it was!
