I need a new home base.

Post by tenrohle »

Hi all,
I'm chasing a new rig for home. Currently I have a Yaesu 747GX which I don't mind, but I want something
similar that has the ability to scan.
What's out there that covers the same amount of range but is a little newer and won't break the bank?
Thanks in advance :)

...or take one more step up the line and grab a Yaesu FT-890AT, amazing little rig that also sounds dang good on AM, set up right.

An ICOM 706 MK1 would be a good choice too. 0 - 200Mhz RX and 100W output SSB on HF bands. Nice and compact and feature rich.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Th 706 MKI can be got cheap but if you like the look of the 706 try and stretch to the MKII-G, by far a better radio.
I will not be commanded, I will not be controlled.
n+1 the formula for working out how many radios you need with n being the current amount.

Aah thanks Andy. I did look at a mk2 but it was double the price of a mk1. I think the 1 will do me nicely. Just picked one up on eBay. Cheers.

I got a Icom IC 706 in the end. Looks like quite a nice radio so far. Gonna have to do a scary mod to make it tx on 11m tho :shifty: I forgot about that bit
