Tristar 848 and 797 differences.

Post by Mudslinger »

Just wondering really, what is the difference between a Tristar 848 and a Tristar 797?

The both look the same and appear to have the same board in them.

Hello Simon

The difference between a Tristar 848 and a Tristar 797 is 240 cx or 200 cx

Thanks Claude, so in the real world no difference as the extra channels are unlikely to be used anyway.

I have the 848 and as far as I know it's just the addition of band F on the 848.

So it got another 40 channels above the others, or did band E become F and the rest moved back 40 channels if that makes sense?

I think F band is another 40 channels of 10m, 28.315-28.755. C band is generally the FCC 40 with these Cybernets, NATO2000 etc.

The difference becomes apparent when you want to put a UK40 eprom in, one's easy, one isn't.

I wont bother with an eprom. It covers the uk channels anyway with a twist of the clarifier. :)

The one with the extra blocks uses the channel switch and the pll to do the extra bands and actually uses less crystals.

I've noticed that one of these radios has the PCMA001S board, where the other is PCMA001S-01. What is the difference that means that one is easy and one isn't. Is it to do with one of them only using three band crystals?
