Globephone 480 dx makes a rerurn

Post by dt307 »

Bought this old girl from pll02a
Let's be honest she been the brunt of many a joke over the years here on tm1.
Many a post about her sickness and loosing her will to live.
She did get some love from nick and was brought back from the brink of death to fight on.
But she came to me alive and kicking but tired
Years of time had taken its toll on her and love wasn't enough any more.
What this old girl needed is a heart and liver and a brain transplant and to be bent over and have a good spanking.
After a few emails from the consultant Dr Gerrard maurer and an operation was scheduled.
Within a flash a new combined brain liver and heart was here ready for transplant .
The old organs were removed pll, vco, crystal board.
And the new digital multi organ fitted.
Pleased to report the transplant went better than expected.
Not only was she alive and awake she was the one that bent me over and did the spanking .
The end result is as follows.
3 bands dds controlled to the spec I wanted
1st is mid band 1-40 then 41-80 is frequency display the 555 is ch55.
2nd is 1-80 frequency display again 10m 28.010 - 28.800.
3rd is UK 1-40 cb
Digital fm incorporated.
Digital tx clarifier moves exact +/- 5kc
1-80 ch readout.
Stable frequency and great ssb audio :D
Only left on the todo list
4 pin mic conversion tidy up the wires
She is a darling and I love her
Big thanks to pll02a for selling her and to nick for keeping her alive and to gerhard for working his magic again for me

Nice work chris

Yeah that din mic socket is a real pain in the ass. I see you've changed the power socket too. You had any contacts on her yet ?

Its certainly a lot more desirable now than it was when i sold it to you. You planning on getting some new decals made up for it or you leaving it as it is ?

Yer will sort the decal out when I make my mind up on the layout lol did remove the swr/cal and put in a 3 position switch for bands but put it back today and used the nb/and switch for bands .I have the fm on the ch9 switch .but I may change it onto a 4 position mode switch or use the cw switch and put a rx led into the old ch9 hole.
No rush on it m8 but hope to get it all done soon.probably do a carbon fiber wrap on the case.the bezel been refurbished and like new .it's all coming along

the dual board i installed has
digital fm the globephone dont come with fm
dds stable frequency control via programmable bands
80 channel readout for a semi frequency display
programmable input (decode the chanel selector )keeps std channel selector
digital clarifier so it move exactly -/+5kc not 4.9 or 5.1 left or right

so the pll and crystal oscillator board and vco gets removed as everything is done digitally on board

results in a very stable and clean ssb signal and fm and easy to use as you allways know what frequency your on

example is some one says goto 27.595 i go to ch 59 or 27.770 i go to ch 70 and shift to the left
and it has uk fm 1-40 readout and mid band 1-40 readout

it just takes an old unwanted radio and brings it close to today tech and a new lease of life

its not cheap and there are other options but this is the road i wend down
