Bakelite Wotsit ?
I bought a job-lot of old radio gear and this item was included.
Any ideas what it is? The wand part is bakelite but the very end surface is flat copper.
Might not necessarily be radio related mind you.

Feels too light too be a solder iron or heater really, and it's bakelite right down to the tip, so probably wouldn't be built for heat. Frequency probe is maybe a good shout. A google search for bakelite probe brings up things called violet ray wands which which look kinda similar.. I'll probably never know

It's an anal vibrator from 1948, hope that helps.

If it's a soldering device then it looks like you could repair tank tracks with the thing.

Looks like a high voltage probe to me.

My old Marconi sig gen has a similar 2 pin plug on the back pannel marked Probe .
Looks more like a temperature probe to me but might be soil acidity or Geiger counter or --

Re: Bakelite Wotsit ?
Try a multi meter across the plug then dip it in hot water .

Re: Bakelite Wotsit ?
Good idea, but the plot thickens.. there's no continuity between the pins at all (hot or cold) and neither is there any connection to the copper tip. There's no way of opening it either than I can seeDragonfly wrote:Try a multi meter across the plug then dip it in hot water .
