Superstar 9900 SSB power

Morning All,

I have a SS9900 in the car, and have always wondered about something. The power control only seems to have any effect on FM and AM. With SSB is does nothing. Is this normal?

its normal if the vr inside the radio been adjusted wrong

set the radio up on a power meter
power control on rig full.... mode usb
use a smart phone and download a tone gen or just keep whiste down the mic or play a 1khz tone into mic
turn the vr for ssb power clockwise untill the power drops sharply
back of the vr anti clockwise untill you get power back
turn power control on rig to min setting
keep turning the vr inside the radio anit clockwise untill you see the power drop sharply again....stop
turn the power control on radio up and check it now turns the ssb power up and down

seen two of rigs sealed from new that didnt adjust the power from the front on ssb untill i did the above

No one's ever been in it, so assumed it wasn't meant to.

I have an audio signal generator... will check it out.

i bought two brand new
one worked fine
one had no ssb power adjust
its the way they set from the factory i guess
also had one with the audio chip wasnt even soldered lol
