One of my old school mates back in '81 had an original 1/2 wave Hy-Gain rod but I'm sure the groundplanes were thicker than those things from memory. Then there was the GAP27, then the GPA27 and they've been making them ever since in various guises.
I always liked the "Blue Laser" blue anodised rod, just because it was pretty and unusual.
