been having a look at server psu's. Seems like a lot of power for not a lot of money, Far as i can see from a quick bit of googling they need to have a few connections jumpered to power them on and a bit of fettling to quieten the fan and bobs your uncle, Think i'll jump on the bandwagon when it comes to this

I don't think they are generically that similar.

Holding out for prettypolly to come good with the details.

.... but first we must connect a fan to the opposite end of the psu ..first remove the plasitc white tag if it has one ..remove the aluminium black handle ..this must be removed its held in with an aluminium pot rivit drill it out gently ..then when done get hold of a 120mm or 12 cm computer fan and blue tack as a temporary measure stick the fan on the end of the psu squarely at the removed hand end ..warning you must position the fan which has arrows on it blowing out wards exhuastive extraction ..in english so its sucking air through the psu from back to front ..then we move to the other end attatch the fan wires to these terminals you have ten large brass copper terminals in a row of ten ATTACH THE WIRES NEG BLACK AND RED STRIPE OR A SOLID BLACK WIRE TO THE ANY LEFT TERMINAL AND POS RED WIRE SOLID RED TO ANY RIGHT TERMINAL EACH TERMINAL IS 13.2 VOLTS 25 AMPS ISH ROUGHLY

NEG II II II II II ---- II II II II II POSITIVE the left five are NEGATIVE CONNECTION AND THE RIGHT FIVE ARE POSITIVE PLEASE TAKE NOTE GET THIS WRONG AND IT WONT WORK ..now that you have the fan a attached to the terminals in the correct position ..hopefully you have done this correctly ..we must now attach the powering up wires please refer to the first diagram as follow the following set of instructions as provided

this is for the dell 6850 only 12 volt 121 amps server psu no other i take no responisility of it blowing up

connect the wires as directed on the diagram opposite O,s are on the left hand block 4 up and 8 across all wires must be connected together this is to power it up

i hope this is very clear but its the best way i can do it ..if it works fine if not contact me thank you.
