Wilson 1000

Post by Photoguy2910 »

Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone that has a Wilson 1000 can answer something for me...

Mine arrived this morning but it has an odd connection on it, do I cut this off and fit the PL259 or is there something I'm missing???

I'm not too sure but according to the Wilson site http://www.wilsonantenna.com/w1000.htm

it comes in three types: Roof Top, Boot/ Trunk Lip and Magnet.

Cutting away at it sounds wrong .

Not sure if it has a 3/8 connection instead?

Sorry, should have made myself clearer... it's the end that goes into the rig... it has some odd conection fitted and I can't see how it wouls go into the back, there was a PL259 supplied too.

Guess I just cut it odd connection off, fit the PL259 and stick it in the back of the box.

Thanks for the Wilson link, I will have a look there too

If a PL259 was supplied it sounds like you need to chop and replace, do you know what type of connector is fitted? maybe a pic :D

it's a 3 piece connector so it's easier to put thru small holes; the PL screws onto the bit on the end, iirc. K40 antennae are the same.

How does the pre fitted socket/threaded section fit in?
Is the PL259 supplied different internally so that it will connect with the fitted piece?

Hey, I'm just having a guess. On closer inspection it looks like a standard PL259.

The 3 seperate bits are a PL259, it's the bit thats fitted to the end of the coax thats got me, it doesn't fit anything... won't screw into any part of the PL259, I can't see any reason for it to be there... wish they had just fitted the PL259 so I don't have to find the soldering iron and solder

the fitted connection looks suspiciously like a mini so239 socket.putting the pl plug on would be the obvious solution.

IT IS a pl 259 they are fine...

just slide the big bit onto the coax and then screw the other two parts together...

it IS the same with the K40 its ideal for slipping the cable thru the small holes in the car...

it would be foolish to cut it as you can be 99% sure the fitting works....

but its up to you........................

I can't see any other way to get it to work as the connection doesn't fit anything and doesn't fit into the PL259. I have emailed Wilson too, so it would be interesting to see what they say
