Dutch 35cm band pirates

Post by RogerD »

Something to listen for when the tropo strikes! 856-868 MHz :

Dutch forum http://www.dxrapporten.com/

And 4.5m too! 61-68MHz :
http://www.sigmafm.nl/4,5Info/4,5%20Info.htm

I'd be interested to know what frequencies their old "60cm" band was on, if anyone knows?

I am reliably informed that 482-487 MHZ Fm could be worth "listening to," calling frequency is 485.500 & as far as I am aware there was activity here last summer, so it is not an "old" frequency.
If they tried to change our national anthem would people stand for it?
And ball points....Should we award them?

Yes 60Cm is for want of a better term an Echo Charlie band & during lifts it can be fairly busy.

hmmm interesting.

Ive seen Puxings etc that run 450-520 MHz (Australian CB market) , but I've not seen anything commercial TX wise to run on 863 MHz
except QRP hi-fi adapters, but these guys are running big watts so I assume its US trunk radios being used in
conventional mode ??

A lot of it is QRP. If you look at the band allocation, you will find TV channels 21 to 34 on WFM, Theater Radio Microphones on NFM & Old Police car links.
The Police fitted repeaters into vehicles & some are readily available now.

Narrow FM does not seem to be a disadvantage.

Its even possible to expand the frequency coverage of the 400-470 Mhz models by pressing a certain combination of buttons on the keypad. It wont transmit and receive very far out of band, but will certainly cover 482-487Mhz no problem.

Ive been googling around trying to find out more about these 35cm pirates,
(it might prove to be an interesting propagation alert)

It seems that where 60cm was an "echo charlie" (i.e. comms) type band ,
the 35cm activity seems more about pirate broadcasting (i.e. music) , hence the
use of WFM.

Given the general lack of domestic radio equipment operating in the band, I find this
somewhat odd !

Who / what is the intended audience ??

does anyone have the inside track ??

Back when I was a teenage CB nut, me and my mates "from the rig" got friendly with some Dutch lads who popped up on air locally one day - they were staying with a local amateur. When they went back to Holland they were kind enough to send us a 3m TX kit which worked rather well  (or it did until it went unstable and wiped out the entire vhf band for miles around until hurriedly switched off!)

I don't remember why the Dutch do so much pirate radio, but it's probably a place where it's easy to get away with it, and with so many people crammed into a flat country then there must be plenty of people in range so its easy to join in with a 'movement' of that kind of activity.

Hi RogerD,

Yes they do seem to like their pirate radio,

I'm just at a loss as to who the audience is on 863 MHz?

if 863 was being used to feed clandestine tx's in 88-108 then I could see the point...

...but is the idea that I would listen to "pirate FM" on my cheap-as-chips Aldi cordless headphones ??

...I dont think so... so is the idea that they broadcast to each other ??

...I dont see the benefit ??

looking for enlightenment! ;-)

regards
