Over the last year or so I have been replacing my aged batteries for my Wouxun handhelds.

The packs are all from 2012 and have been failing, to be expected.

Once strange oddity is that 409shop have been sending their battery packs in project boxes to protect them !

Yeah, so not only do I get a free project box, but then they use old PCB's as packing material.

(Yeah, I'm not making this up !)

I ended up with an old antenna analyser PCB that I repaired, and the last package had some unknown PCB that just gave me
the polyvaricon capacitor I needed for a QRP ATU project, so I unsoldered it and used it.

Life is strange sometimes, in unexpected ways and with an unexpected positive twist.

It is to do with the transportation of the batteries by air, they are prohibited sending them unless they are fitted into an item as part of said item.. I have had a battery turn up as a "Toy Car", it had two axels and four Dinky Toys wheels taped to it, suppose it would look like a toy car on the X-Ray..

It is all to do with some batteries that were being transported by air freight, that somehow managed to set on fire.
A battery fire is different to an ordinary fire (source + heat + oxygen) in that it is very difficult to extinguish, being a chemical reaction fire. Starving oxygen does not work.
It was a pallet of batteries that went up, and couriers decided to limit the carriage of batteries, unless actually installed in an item or a limit on the number in a parcel.
RM are rather nasty in this respect, I was working at a radio shop, sent out a 400 quid antenna analyser which they (alledgedly) had to destroy.

I just tell them any old cobblers when they ask me in the PO what's in the parcel. Mind you, I only ever use them for domestic postage, so couldn't comment on what would happen if I was sending an item with a battery abroad.

Can you not just declare it and fill in a hazmat form or do they just ban batteries? I've certainly had other couriers deliver stuff with the hazmat sticker attached.
